Venture Chemicals, Inc.

Venture Chemicals, Inc. (VCI) is a specialty additives company that has focused on creating change through new technology. It has a proven track record over 30+ years in the drilling fluid industry as well as in other markets. VCI has been responsible for the introduction of some key pieces of unique additive technology to the drilling fluid industry .

As an example, a technology based on a number of specialty products called “seepage loss additives” was introduced in 1977. These products were based on surface modified, micronized cellulose fibers. Application techniques and testing protocols in both the laboratory and field were developed and introduced to the industry. The flag-ship product out of these early, patented products was Ven-Fyber-201. Today, these types of products and applications are used at some point in virtually every well drilled on a global basis. These products changed the way certain drilling operations are conducted and they have survived the test of time. At least 45 companies have become competitors over the years to VCI in this market segment. Few of these companies have added to the original technology.

Another key area of technology that Venture Chemicals, Inc. developed and introduced to the market is a suite of novel organolignite products that are primarily used as specialty fluid loss additives in oil and synthetic oil drilling fluid systems. The original development product in this area was done by one of the VCI founders when he was with one of the major drilling fluid service company. Later on, with the formation of Venture Chemical, Inc., this technology was greatly expanded into a series of new derivatives. VCI furnishes these specialty derivatives to a key portion of the global market under various Venture Chemicals, Inc. trademarks as well as private label products. Again, this technology has changed the way business is done and has again survived the test of time

A third example of product innovations involving VCI, is the development, introduction, and marketing of “aphron-based fluids”. These highly novel and unusual fluids were jointly developed in one of the enVentive's group of companies, now known as MASI Technologies, Inc.

MASI Technologies (MASI) develops drilling fluid systems based “Aphrons”. The aphrons are highly stabilized gas bubbles that are less than 100 microns in diameter. These extremely small, high surface area, stabilized, and energized micro-bubbles confer numerous unusual and unique properties to either water base or oil base fluids.

One of the key properties that makes these aphron-based fluids completely different than any other drilling fluid is the ability of the fluid to provide variable, self adjusting, densities in the various downhole micro-environments found in loss zones during drilling of oil and gas wells. Another key property is that Aphrons collect rapidly at various pressure losses or pressure drops in the formation. These aggregated bubbles form a cushion or a shock absorber providing a barrier to further fluid loss or further fracture initiation.

Aphrons have been developed for both oil and water base systems. Several distinct and novel Aphron systems are currently available. Developments to extend temperature and pressure limitations, reduce cost, and improve performance are an on-going part of the development work.

Because of the novel properties of these Aphron fluids, it is believed that this technology will ultimately be used in some form, at some point, in virtually every well drilled. It is likely that some, probably not all, of the seepage-loss fiber technology will be replaced ultimately by some form of this Aphron technology.

HiTech Fluid Systems

HiTech Fluid Systems is a leading drilling fluids expert for production of depleted and unconventional sources including coal bed methane, oil and natural gas wells. HiTech designs and implements customized drilling fluid programs for horizontal, vertical or deviated wells.

Since 1999, the HiTech team of professional experts and field technicians have designed and developed appropriate formulations for a wide range of drilling applications.

HiTech provides custom drilling fluid solutions for each environment, including invert oil emulsions, saturated salt muds, inhibitive muds, polymer-based mud systems, UBD with Tech Clean, Foam Systems and Aphron systems.

With over 250 years of combined experience in the oil and gas industry, we work directly with our clients to outline and assess each project. Computer modeling, laboratory analysis and research assist in determining which drilling fluids are most appropriate for a particular environment. Finally, an efficient, cost-effective and environmentally-sound program is developed to meet the specific needs of the client.

HiTech’s research and development programs improve the efficiency of fluids and chemicals used in drilling operations while reducing environmental impact. Effective communication with clients ensures that projects are brought in on time – and on budget. HiTech Fluid Systems offers reliable, high quality solutions for the oil and gas industry.

We work in oil and gas environments around the world, including the North Sea, the Americas, North Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Trinidad.

enVentive Energy Division (ENVED)
The energy division focuses on drilling fluids for oil and gas companies. Proprietary technology and integrated service offerings significantly increase the return on investment for drilling operators. Our technology platform extends from the manufacture of these drilling fluids additives, to wholesale drilling fluids systems and retail technology products and services.

enVentive operates three business units:

Venture Chemicals, Inc. develops specialty additives based on naturally-occurring raw materials that are customized to prevent seepage loss. The additives are used in a variety of systems such as drilling, workover, and completion fluids, foundry molding sands, investment wax castings, printing inks, and as intermediates for other specialty chemicals.

MASI Technologies proprietary Aphron (AphronICS™) solution is based upon extremely small (< 100 microns in size) micro-bubbles of gas which are stabilized and energized to confer novel fluid properties to liquids such as waters and oils used in formulating drilling, workover and completion fluids. Aphron technology is sold as a complete fluid systems-- not just additives.

HiTech Fluid Systems is a leading drilling fluids expert for production of depleted and unconventional sources including coal bed methane, oil and natural gas wells. HiTech designs and implements customized drilling fluid programs for horizontal, vertical or deviated wells.

Together, these companies offer a fully integrated service offering to end users, the drilling operators, and provide a platform to bring new products and technologies more efficiently into the field. The company’s founders bring with them a portfolio of over 150 issued or pending patents in the drilling fluid area.
